Stoke Newington Town Hall Wedding Photography

As a London wedding photographer Stoke Newington Town Hall has got to be one of my favourite London wedding venues! I have photographed so many weddings here now it feels like a second home. There is something really special about both the Town Hall and the couples who choose to get married here, which always makes for the most wonderful weddings!

About Stoke Newington Town Hall

Stoke Newington Town Hall is a historic wedding venue in Hackney, London. It is a Grade II listed building built in 1937. During the Second world War the town hall served as a local civil defence headquarters and in 1939, camouflage paint was applied to the outside of the building to protect against bomb damage. The paint is still clearly visible today and is one of my favourite features of building's exterior!

Nestled in a leafy corner of Church Street next to Clissold Park, Stoke Newington Town Hall provides the perfect backdrop to your London Town Hall wedding, with many possibilities for portraits within striking distance.

The interiors of Stoke Newington Town Hall exude 1930's Art Deco glamour, which make it a beautiful, characterful and really special setting for a wedding ceremony.

The Council Chamber has a licence to hold civil ceremonies and features dark mahogany and original walnut panelling. Add to that the stunning art deco architecture, the tones, the light, the symmetry and those fabulous orange velvet curtains you really can't help but end up with the most stunning wedding ceremony photos!

The Council Chamber can accommodate 83 guests when set up for a wedding ceremony with 50 seated on the main floor and 33 in the gallery.

One of the very best things about choosing Stoke Newington Town Hall for your wedding ceremony is that they only hold one ceremony at a time, which is a real bonus as far as London Town Halls go and makes for a lovely, relaxed experience. Stoke Newington Town Hall manages to combine sophisticated elegance with vintage warmth to create a uniquely appealing wedding venue.

How to Make the Most of Your Stoke Newington Town Hall Wedding Photography

I have been a London wedding photographer for a decade this year(!) and have photographed weddings at Stoke Newington Town Hall almost every year and I can honestly say that I love it more every time I visit! I am a modern documentary wedding photographer and I work in a relaxed and creative way, capturing the day as it unfolds, always looking for the magic in the every day moments and creating meaningful memories. Your wedding gallery will be full of all the good stuff: the small and the spectacular, the chaotic and the quirky, the beautiful and the perfectly imperfect.

Getting Ready

Stoke Newington Town Hall is perfectly situated for a relaxed, low stress wedding day. The Rose and Crown is a gorgeous traditional pub and guesthouse just across the road and is an ideal place to get ready on the morning of your wedding, to meet your friends for a quick drink to steady the nerves or even to have a low key drinks reception straight after the ceremony. The 1930's architecture and curved facade really compliments the town hall opposite and as a wedding photographer I love how coherent this makes your wedding photographs. The Brownswood is another stylish pub with rooms a hop skip and a jump away on the other side of Clissold Park, so it's really easy for both of you to get ready super close to your venue and avoid and London traffic dramas!

Portraits

Getting married at Stoke Newington Town Hall also offers some fantastic opportunities for fun, relaxed and modern wedding portraits. As a wedding photographer, I love to hang back in the council chamber with you for a minute or two while your guests are leaving so we can make the most of the interiors and grab some stylish couple portraits. Following that the stunning town hall serves as the perfect backdrop for your confetti exit and your family group photos immediately afterwards. We can take a wander around lovely Clissold Park for some more portraits or if you are walking to your local reception venue then Stoke Newington offers an abundance of great locations and backdrops. If you want everything to feel natural, self contained and easy on your wedding day, you really can't go wrong with a Stoke Newington Town Hall wedding.

Reception Venues

When it comes to booking a reception venue Stoke Newington itself has some excellent options. I love photographing weddings at The Londesborough Pub, which is just a short stroll from the town hall, so it is always really fun to take candid photographs of your guests as they process through the streets of North London - my favourite kind of wedding photography! It is a relaxed, fun and modern pub and we always receive a wonderful welcome from the team. Alternatively The Prince is also within walking distance and is a cosy option for an intimate wedding. If you fancy heading a bit further afield I have had a lot of fun as a wedding photographer hopping on board a traditional red London Routemaster bus where the party can get started straight away as you wiz through London to your reception! Hackney really is a treasure trove of possibilities, but some of my personal faves are MKII in Lower Clapton (I mean what could a wedding photographer possibly love more than photographing a wedding in an actual photography studio?!), The Hackney which is both cool and beautiful in equal measure and of course the ever popular Clapton Country Club.
